Follonica (km. 9): The town is ideally situated along the splendid Maremman coast, facing the Isle of Elba and protected by the promontories of Piombinio and Punta Ala. Its favourable geographical position ensures a mild climate. There is a huge expanse of beach and the sea is both shallow and calm with no dangerous currents. Follonica is an ideal, all year round, holiday destination with interesting shops/bars and a famous Friday market.

A visit to the Cala Violina is a must. Situated between the Puntone di Scarlino and Punta Ala - bounded by the sea and lush Mediterranean woodland – it can only be reached by signposted paths. It is worth the trip, if only for the breathtaking panoramic views of the Gulf of Follonica and the southern islands of the Tuscan Archipelago. The name “Cala Violina” is derived from the sound made when walking on its beautiful white sands which is similar to that made by a violin.
