Scarlino (km. 20): Located on a hill covered by olive trees and Mediterranean woodland, Scarlino looks out over the Follonica plain and gulf. The old village includes a partly restored castle and a group of well preserved houses. Worth a visit by either day or night to enjoy the panoramic views and romantic atmosphere.

Etruscan ruins can be seen in Scarlino – simply follow the road to the sea and the ruins are signposted to the left. There is also a modern tourist port at Puntone.

For the inhabitants of Scarlino, the Giuli Rosselmini family is of particular importance. A street is named after Earl Ludovico Rosselmini (great uncle of the present owner of Tenuta di Vignale) as an expression of their gratitude for the significant amount of land and real estate left by him to the Cottolengo Charity which has been established in the village for many years.
